John and Penny Group (Pty) Limited was initially established as a small family company in 1993 and has over the years grown to be recognised as one of the biggest indigenious owned companies in Namibia. Our shareholders are Mr John “Akapandi” Endjala and his wife Mrs Penehafo K Endjala . Mr John “Akapandi” Endjala is the Executive Chairman of the Group,
Akapandi as he is known in business circles is a highly accomplished and respected businessman in Namibia. Starting off from humble beginnings in the then rural Northern Namibia, his business journey is one of true entrepreneurial excellence and hard work dating back from his school days in the early 1980s when he retailed bread and sweets to fellow students in order to make extra money. In the late 1980s his father sent him to the capital city Windhoek with N$ 20.00 to search for work. Having held a posts as a security guard, building assistant and earth-moving machine operator for a few years he resigned from formal employment to follow his entrepreneurial instincts.
He started off by selling roasted meat at a busy spot in the residential location and later opened a “Shebeen” that developed into an upmarket bar. Making use of his formal employment background, he also established a Security Company and a Construction Company and went into business full throttle, investing and de-investing in opportunities that arose through the years until today where he has guided John and Penny Group (Pty) Limited to one of the most recognised indigenous enterprises in Namibia.
Akapandi has also been passionately involved in promoting Namibian business in various capacities in the macro-economic spectrum over the years. In the 1998 he established and headed the Indigenous People’s Business Council (IPBC) to provide a voice and means for black Namibians to articulate and lobby to become an integral part of the Namibian economy after years of apartheid and colonial isolation between business people of different racial and ethnic backgrounds.
He was later elected as Vice President of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry and later became the president. Additionally he has also served as a President of the SADC Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The following is a non-exhaustive list of his some of Akapandi’s advisory roles, past and present;
